The two most common devices used in high viscosity processes are Double Planetary Mixers and sigma blade mixers. The sigma blade mixer consists of two z-shaped blades mounted on horizontal grooves. The blades are directed towards each other at different speeds and in the bottom chamber, the mixing screw is rotated in a reversible direction, or the material is supplied to the sigma blades during the mixing cycle or the finished product is extruded during discharge.
The vertical agitator of the double planetary mixer rotates on its own axis while rotating about the central axis in the vessel. The same blade continues continuously along the perimeter of the mixing vessel, removing material from the wall and transporting it to the interior.
